A long time ago I saw an idea for a juice drink that was very simple and refreshing. I took that idea and have explored lots of different combinations of citrus fruits to make a healthy juice drink that not only boosts your immune system, but provides a great pick me up with the bright scents and distinct smells.
Today I am sharing an idea more than a specific recipe (though I have that too). During the winter it's easy to let nutrition fall a bit by the wayside and this healthy juice drink is sure to get you right back on track. I think that when we feed our body nutritious foods and drinks then our bodies want it more. This drink is really great year round, but I find that I particularly enjoy it in the middle of winter when I need that extra pick me up.
Because of the colors in this delicious AND healthy juice drink, my kids and I have dubbed this the Sunset Drink. Isn't it so pretty?
Sunset- Healthy Juice Drink Recipe
1. Cut all the fruit in half
2. Begin with juicing the grapefruit, then the orange, lemon and lime
3. If desired, give it a stir to combine or just pour directly into a cup.
4. I like to drink it at room temperature but my kids like it best when it's been refrigerated first.
As I mentioned before, this healthy juice drink recipe is not hard and fast. You can change it around to suit your tastes or the items you have on hand. This drink is very sour and if you feel like it's too much you could always try adding a drop of honey or agave to tone it down a bit. Sometimes I add more orange to make it a little sweeter. If you love citrus fruit like my family, you can't go wrong with mixing and matching these fruits to create a tasty drink that is going to give your immune system a nice boost and might even lift your mood! I've ready many studies that talk about how citrus scents have mood boosting power.
