Have you ever been in a crunch to find a gift for a baby shower? Maybe you don't have time to go shopping or you simply want to give a homemade gift! Here are some ideas of cute diy baby gifts that you can make in one day.
DIY Baby Gifts
This is one of my ABSOLUTE favorite diy baby gifts to make for other people. Click here to find my tutorial on how to make burp cloths in under an hour! It's a fun and easy way to really customize a gift for a mother to be. Using terry cloth on one side ensures that these burp cloths will really do their job.
The same tutorial for the burp cloths will show you how to make them into wash cloths instead! I don't think that a new mother can every have too many cute cloths to keep that baby nice and clean.
This particular blanket took me a little bit more than one day because I pieced it together and then sewed all the blocks together. It IS possible to make a simple fleece blanket in one day. There are lots of fun ways that you can make them more fancy by adding a decorative stitch, hand sewing a blanket stitch, tying it together, or adding a trim. The sky is the limit (and maybe your time constraints too!)
I have made lots of different kinds of pillows, varying in their level of difficulty. Here I will show you some of the pillows I have made and order them from easiest to most difficult.
This pillow was made using a kit that I picked up at my local craft store. There was a pillow form and two pieces of fleece. All I had to do was sew the two pieces of fleece together, cut the fringes, stuff the pillow inside, and then tie the fringes together. This project is fast and super fun.
This is a slip cover that I sewed to cover a pillow form. It's as easy as measuring, folding, and sewing a straight line to make this cute slip cover. It's nice that you can slip it off to wash too!
I made this pillow by sewing together some leftover flannel material. Then I stuffed the pillow with polyester stuffing. I finished off by sewing a slip cover that I closed with velcro pieces sewn on either side of the bottom.
This project is not simple or fast, but it is SO cute!!!! It is also so easy to customize. This is definitely a project I recommend tackling after you have mastered some basic skills, it is really fun to try.
Decoration for the nursery
Any time that I know someone well enough to know their style, the colors they like, or the theme they are using, I like to make something special for the nursery. It's the perfect time to whip out a diy baby gift for your family and friends. For me, there is no better way to welcome a new baby into the world than by taking the time to make something special just for them.
The pictures below show just a few of the examples of decorations I have made over the past few years.
For the Dodgers fans I painted a canvas blue and glued on a burlap "E" for the baby. I found a wooden circle at the craft store and painted it to look like a baseball. I think that this decoration could possibly grow with the baby. What do you think?
I made these cute wall plaques by printing some cute sayings on card stock. Then I got the wood squares from the craft store and painted them white. I used modge podge to glue the paper to the wood. Then I cut the ribbons and used a hot glue gun to attach them to the wood.
For these monograms I found little wooden letters at my local craft store. Then I got some fake flowers and covered the body of the letters with the leaves. Once I filled in most of the space I went back in and added the flowers. I used a hot glue gun to attach everything.
The elephant bunting was made by printing a cute image on card stock. I cut them out and strung them up on some burlap string. So cute and so easy!
